Training

Philosophy

Each dog is a unique individual, and no two dogs are alike. When it comes to dog training, there are as many opinions as there are dogs and many techniques for training. Many trainers are trained in, and employ only one style of training. If the dog does not respond positively to the style, chances are the dog gets blamed leaving an untrained dog with unresolved issues, and the need to find another trainer.

At Perfect Balance Pet, we believe that virtually all dogs can be trained and those with behavioral problems can be rehabilitated. Just like people, dogs respond to different approaches and learn via different modalities. This is why we are trained and well versed in multiple proven methods of training that are behavior based - ensuring the optimal training method is matched to your dog's unique way of learning.

At Perfect Balance Pet, we also believe that we can achieve our best results in tailored, individual private sessions. Individual training is more productive and cost effective than group classes; and at this time we offer only private individualized sessions.

The following is a list of some of the training we offer:

Basic Obedience Training and handling

This is teaching you to set basic rules, boundaries and limitations to make the dog a general well behaved canine citizen. Some of the things you and your dog learn are: Sit-Stay, Down-Stay, recall command (come), Drop-it, Give, the proper way to walk a dog.

Puppy Training

Basic obedience training and handling, house breaking, nutritional guidance, crate training, mouthing and play biting, chewing, migration or walking.

Early training helps ensure you help your pup establish good habits and it helps unwanted habits from developing. For puppies we focus on:

  • Prevention of common behavior problems
  • Handling and gentling exercises to create a good temperament
  • Teaching basic household manners

All puppy training is decidedly “dog-friendly” in its endeavor to teach young puppies not only what we want them to do, but to want to do what we want them to do. This type of training produces willingly compliant, mannerly, good-natured, easily-handled adult dogs. Getting off to an early start sets you and your pup up for greater success.

Crate Training

A dog crate is a perfect natural bed for the dog, and a safe natural spot to put the pet whenever necessary for the dog's safety or the owner's peace of mind. The purpose of crate training your dog is to teach your dog to go into its crate on command for safety, obedience and general behavior control. It is an important tool that prevents and facilitates other behavioral training such as house breaking, and separation anxiety. We teach your dog to like his/her crate, and to deem it as their own private safe get away.

House Breaking

There's no such thing as an almost housebroken dog. When a dog is housebroken he never uses the house for his toilet. While housebreaking in theory is very simple, it can be very frustrating and time consuming. That's we can help by either developing a program for you to do it yourself more efficiently, or taking the dog into our house and doing the work for you.

Socialization

Socialization is an important aspect of any dog’s development and healthy state of mind. We can teach your dog canine etiquette from a dog’s point of view, to allow him/her to properly interact with other dogs and humans, and lead a happier and more fulfilling life.

Nutritional Consultations

Studies show that most health issues in dogs and cats can be traced to the feeding of foods that contain poor nutritional value, and are therefore preventable. Although nutritional information is readily available from various sources, pet owners can become overwhelmed when faced with multiple sources of information, and the noise generated by marketing campaigns. Perfect Balance Pet can show you what you need to feed your dog or cat as a responsible pet owners and provide our loved ones with food that has good nutritional value.
